I figured my first street style post would be appropriate to celebrate the first day of NYFW FW17. Already such a strong theme of “It doesn’t matter what garment you wear with another, it’s about how you wear them”. Structure is another huge element we saw today. There are simple but striking structure from Alexander Wang to no structure at all from Lacoste.
Director of Vogue Runway, Nicole Phelps has the perfect quote to describe the atheistic for today’s outfit, “[Alexander Wang] opened with tailoring, splicing traditional suiting fabrics with sweatshirting to take the starch out. But from there he moved swiftly on to catsuits, leather pants, shorts, stretch denim with bold silver button-flys, and chain mail tees.”
Wang has always been one of my favorite designers. His ability to follow the zeitgeist perfectly every single show and line is beyond me. His pieces appear to have such ease, but they have amazing construction and mood to them. This street style look today has both structure and a laid back feel. This Missguided skirt’s construction and detail could be intimidating, but the easiest way to counteract it is with a simple sweatshirt or tee for day and a lace top/bralette for night. Danielle Bernstein from WeWoreWhat did an amazing job styling this skirt up for a more professional day time look (see post here).
I’m also obsessed with the tight craze right now too. Wang had his announcement of not having an after party on the side of models’ tights. Simple graphics are a go to, but if you can pull off the crazy colors and details I say go for it!
P.S. You will be seeing a lot of these shoes…they are my favorite thrift find EVER!
