Catching All the Rays

Summer in the Bay Area is never the same. The weather changes from day to day and new events happen every year. Here is a look that can bring you from the 80 degree day to the 60 degree night.

This mesh top is 90’s vintage. You can find it at any fast fashion establishment now. I am wearing mine with no bra, but having a cute bralette underneath is a great look for the hot days to come. Throw on an edgy light jacket like this one I found at Mercy Vintage in Oakland, CA. With a cropped and boxy structure, there is still ventilation but keeps in the heat. Wrap this around your waist during the day with some distress jeans or shorts.

The jeans I chose (because I am perpetually cold) are from Target. The rip in the knee sends air to your skin as you walk. Target’s denim is on the cheaper side in terms of quality so the material is thin; a win for this transitional look!

These western inspired black, pointed-toe booties go with anything. Black booties are my favorite shoe style because they can be used for any season, any style, at any time. These are also from Mercy Vintage (still available!).

Why wear so much black or dark colors in the summer? The first reason is because you will stand out. Everyone pulls there colorful frock dresses from the back of their closet during the summer season. As long as you style your dark piece correctly, you will draw the right kind of attention. Next is that if you are a naturally cold person but don’t want to be bundled up all summer, black attracts heat. Wear lightweight pieces that won’t make you sweat but pull the sun toward you. Stick to lighter fabrics in dark hues. It will look youthful enough for summer. Layering is so much easier with lighter fabrics, so have fun with it!
