Another combination of contemporary and vintage that’s perfect for the beach. This stretch-runch top and vintage shorts are the perfect pieces to layer with a swimsuit.

There is so much confusion as to what the word “tunic” actually describes. It started in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century BC. A Roman tunic was used as an under garment for a toga or just a long shirt for the lower classes. The word evolved with history, and it ended up describing a shirt, layering piece, and a dress. Different class identifications were associated with it as civilizations came and went.

Contrasting patterns are like eye-candy when it comes to outfits. It adds and eclectic and curious element to a look, and it leaves people staring (in a good way). There are some rules to follow when putting the ensemble together.

Capturing the extreme sun of August in a comfortable way is done by wearing earth tones. Black certainly does the trick, but that can be too intense. Tan and brown tones are just dark enough the keep you at a comfortable temperature and create an upscale day to night look.

When people hear the word “vintage”, there are thoughts that link to it. People often think of hipsters or old musty clothing. I wear vintage 4 out of the 7 days of the week, and most of my outfits lean toward the modern look. It’s not about the individual piece, it’s how you style it.
Wearing a head-to-toe look from your favorite brand or store always gives you an extra boost of confidence. This white ensemble is from my favorite store, Mercy Vintage in Oakland, CA.

In the mid-season between the talk of summer and fall fashion, I like to take risks when buying new pieces. Since fall shows are right around the corner, trends tend to go up in the air. People are watching the streets for new, emerging style choices. These out of the box choices tend to be influencers for the new fall collections.

Working in the fashion industry calls for you to have a staple. Grace Coddington has her gorgeous red hair, Anna Wintour’s black sunglasses will never be forgotten, and Danielle Bernstein’s minimalist yet intricate vibe is copied world wide. When I realized mine is a shoulder-padded blazer paired with sunnies, I couldn’t have been happier.

I spent the day at the beach with Derrick Russell to work on a special project. Connecting over Instagram, we learned that we were signed with the same modeling agency. The conversation carried on to our personal businesses; mine being the blog and his being his California apparel brand. When I learned the story behind Bridges and Beaches Supply Co. (BBSC), I would be doing an injustice to my fellow NorCal dwellers if I did not feature it on the blog.

Burning incense sticks woke up your senses as soon as you climbed the metal industrial steps of the warehouse. Stringed fabric laced with flowers swung in the breeze from the gaping window. “A Current Affair” was scratched in chalk on a black board welcoming in each customer.
