As much as I would love to walk into a Gucci or Prada store without a worry of how much money I spend, I simple can’t. I was once embarrassed or scared to say that I can’t afford some brands. Being in fashion school, there can be some pressure about buying the latest designs.

Ever since I started relying on my own closet to style new outfits, I’ve been so much happier. Grant it, I had this realization after the fact that I filled my closet to the breaking point. I do have a lot of clothes to choose from, but having the grasp of the urge to shop taken away has relieved a lot to financial stress. Vintage definitely took all embarrassment away because it is affordable, and you find high end brands for way less! You become a treasure hunter and start to understand your own style on a deeper level.

I enjoy thrifting and vintage shops so much more than the average retail shops you find in any mall. It makes me feel better when I know I am wearing a piece of fashion history. That is where I found this vintage Jean Paul Gaultier top. Mercy Vintage in Oakland, CA is known for having vintage designer clothes at a great price.

I threw the “no brown on black” rule out the window for this look. It’s great for business and meetings. A simple black trouser with walkable flats is a simple and professional look. Because these are both dark colors, try to make the shoe or accessory a pop of color or high contrast.
